PEARSON Edexcel Higher National Certificate and Diploma (Blended Learning)

The Pearson Higher National Diploma Blended Learning Programme is a Higher Education course that progresses from (HNC) level 4 to (HND) level 5. The course is accredited by Pearson Edexcel; part of the largest and most well-known international educational standards organisation. Pearson Edexcel qualifications are recognised around the world and provide credits for entry to a range of further and higher education courses either in the UK or anywhere in the world. Students enrolled on the course will benefit from high quality teachers and excellent learning materials to help them through the course and learn about many different aspects of how to run a successful business.

Minimum Age
The minimum age requirement for this course is 18 years.

Entry Requirements
Applicants will require a  level 3 qualification (Matura) or equivalent although mature learners with relevant work experience may be accepted on to the course.The course is delivered in English therefore students will need to demonstrate a good command of the English language at Common Education Framework (CEFR) B2.

Length of Course and number of units
This course is 2 years long with 15 units. The first year ends with completion of the Higher National Certificate.
The second year ends upon completion of the Higher National Diploma’s 15 units.

 

There are three entry points for students to join the course. Each semester is 12 weeks in duration. Residential in UK will normally take place in July/August.

This course operates on a blended learning basis so you can enrol wherever you are in the world. However, it is mandatory for learners to spend at least two residential weeks studying in Bolton or Manchester, UK. There are three start dates available for this course; these are in January, April or September so students can decide the start date that suits them best.

Blended learning is a mixture of face to face teaching, online or virtual lectures and online learning.
All courses have 2 intensive one week programmes where students study in a classroom with a teacher and other students.  Students will study academic writing skills and study techniques to ensure they have the skills they will need to successfully complete their course.  These intensive residential week courses are normally delivered in the UK (may be available in Poland subject to group size).

The main course is delivered is by a series of Virtual lectures.   A Virtual lecture is delivered by a teacher over the internet directly to the student or group of students.  Assignments are set by the teacher during the lectures.  Students will attend 3 x lectures via Skype or similar and 3 x Assignment tutorials via Skype or similar per unit. Students complete their assignments and submit them to a set deadline.

Students will have access to a range of online resources including research materials, video lectures and assignment support materials, whilst being fully supported by their teacher whenever they need their help or guidance.

    Step 1: Students applying for the study loan from the Agency for Regional Development Starachowice must first submit an online application to the Agency. Application must include course title, name of training deliverer and intended course start date.

    Step 2: Student submits application for the course to OLC (Europe) Ltd together with evidence of entry requirements.

    Step 3: OLC (Europe) Ltd will process your application, this may include a Skype interview.  Successful applicants will be issued with

    • an Offer Letter detailing the name of your course, the course fee due and the course start date.
    • a pro forma invoice in £’s (GBP)

    Step 4: Student arranges to make payment of course fees to OLC (Europe) Ltd.  Details of how to pay will be found on the invoice.  Students taking advantage of the Agency for Regional Development study loan facility will need to submit the proforma invoice to the Agency for payment.  The Agency will transfer the course fee directly to the training provider.

    Step 5: On receiving full payment of course fees, OLC (Europe) Ltd will issue a Letter of Acceptance to study.

    Step 6: You will be enrolled on your course and your learning journey will begin!!

    When will my course start?
    There are 3 entry points to the course each year. You can join the course in April September or January. Each semester is 12 weeks in duration. The next entry dates are: 23rd April 2018/24th September 2018/ 14th January 2019.
    How long will my course last?
    The HND course is delivered over 2 academic years. In the first year you will study Higher National Certificate. Successful completion of HNC will allow you progress to Higher National Diploma in Year 2.

    *Students applying for Agency of Regional Development loan funding should apply for the full HND 2 year programme to ensure the loan covers the full duration of the course.

    If I leave the course early before completing, will I get a refund?
    Course fees are non-refundable. Refunds are only considered in the following circumstances:

    • If course ceases
    • Incorrect application of fees
    • Exceptional Circumstances at the discretion of the college.

    Due to European fraud & money laundering legislation, any refunds issued must be returned to the payee only and may be subject to administration charges.

    *If you have taken out a Loan from the Agency for Regional Development Starachowice remember you will still be liable for the loan and will need to repay it in full.

    How long can I expect to study each week?
    Our Blended Learning programme will allow you to study at your own pace, in your own time from the comfort of your own home and country.
    The minimum number of Guided learning hours (GLH) is 15 hours a week, therefore you should expect be logged into the online learning platform for a minimum of 15 hours each week. Our blended learning courses allow you to study at a time that suits you so you don’t have to study at a certain time. In addition students are expected to study additionally approximately 15 hours per week to research and work on assignments.
    What language will I study in?
    The course is a UK qualification delivered in English.  All assignments must be written and submitted in English.
    How will I learn?
    This course is delivered by Blended Learning. Blended learning is a mixture of face to face teaching, online or virtual lectures and online learning.
    All courses have an intensive 2 x 1 week programme where students study in a classroom with a teacher and other students.
    How many on line lectures will I have each week?
    Students will attend 3 x lectures via Skype or similar and 3 x Assignment tutorials via Skype or similar per unit. There is typically one lecture every weeks per subject.

    A typical lecture will last for 1 hour.

    How will I be enrolled onto the course and get access to the course?
    Once your application has been processed and approved and full payment of course fees received, you will be issued with a Unique Student ID number. You will also be issued with login details for the online learning platform.
    How will I get access to on line materials?
    You will be issued with login details for the online learning platform. All the resources and materials for the course will be available to you on our Learning Platform.
    Will I get a login to an online system?
    OLC use an Online Learning Platform called Moodle. Once enrolled you will be issued with login details for the platform.
    Who will teach me?
    Students enrolled on the course will benefit from high quality teachers and professors at OLC supported by excellent learning materials to help them through the course. All students are allocated a tutor and a Programme tutor.
    How will I communicate with my teacher/tutor?
    Once enrolled on the course you will be allocated with a subject tutor and programme tutor.  You can communicate with your tutors through online interactive lectures with your tutors or by emailing them at any time.
    Will there be an exam?
    There is no exam.  The course is assignment based. You will be set assignments by your tutor which must be submitted by a set deadline.
    How is my course assessed?
    The majority of the course is assignment based. You will typically be asked to write approximately 2500 words per assignment.
    How many assignments will I have?
    The Higher National Diploma (HND) has 15 units, most of which are assessed with 1 assignment, some have 2. In year 1 (HNC) you will study 8 units.
    When will I have to hand in my assignments?
    Typically assignments are issued at the end of a unit. Students are usually given 6 weeks to complete the assignment. A deadline for submission will be set which will be informed to you by your tutor and must be adhered to.
    How will I submit my assignments?
    Completed assignments should be submitted first to an online ‘plagiarism’ detection system called ‘Turn it in’, then they are uploaded onto the online Learning Platform. The submission deadline set by your tutor must be adhered to.
    How will I know if I have passed my assignment?
    Your assignments will be marked within 3 weeks from submission. Your assignment will be given a grade which will be communicated to you by your tutor on the Online Learning Platform:

    • Pass
    • Merit
    • Distinction
    • Refer – This means you will need to re work your assignment and resubmit.
    When is the residential in the UK?
    UK week residential week is usually held in the UK in July or August each year.
    What will happen if I am not able to attend the UK intensive residential?
    All students are required to undertake this intensive course. Exceptional circumstances will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
    How long is the UK residential?
    Over the course of the 2 years you will be invited to take part in 2 intensive residential sessions in the UK. Each intensive session is 1 week in duration.
    What is included in the residential?
    The intensive residential is an integral and important element of the Blended Learning Programme. This is your opportunity to meet your tutor face to face and work with other international students studying the Blended Learning HND. Students will study academic writing skills and study techniques to ensure they have the skills they will need to successfully complete their course.
    The course is normally held in Manchester, UK in August and includes a series of cultural visits and sightseeing excursions. Refreshments are available throughout the day during study periods.

    The cost of traveling to and staying in the UK is the responsibility of the student. OLC will arrange airport transfers on your arrival in the UK providing you notify us of your arrival details.

    NB: Flights, accommodation and meals are not included in the course fee so you will need to plan accordingly. The cost of a typical flight from Warsaw to Manchester is £60 – £130 with accommodation in Manchester ranging from between £200 to £500 per week dependant on type of accommodation you choose.

    When will I receive my qualification and certificate?
    Once you have successfully completed all units and assignments to the required standard, your grades will be submitted to the exam board for verification. This is normally done in the 2 week after the end of term. Students will be notified about the status of their award soon after. OLC will then apply to the accrediting body for your qualification certificate, this usually takes around 6 weeks.

    The Pearson Higher National Diploma is Internationally recognised. The Higher National Certificate and Diploma are accredited on the European Credit Transfer System so you can use the credits towards a qualification anywhere in Europe or around the world.

    When will I graduate?
    You will graduate from your Higher National Diploma when you receive your certificate.  Blended Learning students will be invited to the OLC Graduation Ceremony held in the UK usually in July.
